Responsibilities: Church planting, teaching
E-mail Address: joe@ncfnairobi.org

Joseph finished his Th.M. at Covenant Seminary in 1989. He has been teaching at Daystar University since 1995 in the Religious Studies Dept. In 1997 the Lord led Joseph and Elfi to start a church plant in the community where they live in Nairobi. This racial reconciliation church ministers to Kenyan Asians and Africans.

Joseph and Elfi form relationships with Hindus primarily through monthly "satsangs" or fellowships and quarterly evening "grills" for men, in order to reach just men. They have been blessed to see the growth of the Church from a humble fifteen people in attendance to the current seventy to ninety. The church is affiliated with a ministry to orphaned children in the slum area of Kibera in Nairobi and also ministers to handicapped people.

Latest Report: (updated 10/21/2009)

Dear family and friends,

I hardly can believe that Summer is gone and we are now coming towards the end of the year even! Am not sure at what stage this letter finds you in your life. But I got this promise from God today that, "God will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways" (Ps 91:11 NIV). Am not sure who came up with the phrase, life is like a roller coaster! This is very true. But whatever state we find ourselves in, God will command His angels to go through with you at that particular circumstance.

God has been with us in particular through difficult circumstances. As the issue with pastor Shafkat's daughter was coming to an end with the birth of the baby another one seemed to be brewing! This has been discouraging for both the parents and us because of our involvement. Mishaal has been asking to leave home with her baby and be independent. This sounds good but she does not have a job or place to stay. Shafkat's Muslim brothers would not want to hear any of it either! It is emotionally draining. And yet, God has seen us through.

Since last year our country has been very dry. Some of you may have been reading through newspapers or seen it on the news that many have lost their domestic animals and even the wild animals have been dying, including people who were affected by the drought. We have had power and water rationing throughout the country until this past week. Finally, God in His mercy and compassion has showered the country with rain everywhere. We are now being told that we will experience the El Nino rains. Infact as I write this letter, it has been raining so much in some places that people are already praying for it to stop! Roller coaster! No rain for two years, then too much all of a sudden!

We have not been spared by the financial downturn in the States ourselves. One of our good supporting churches communicated to us this year that they can no longer continue to support us because of their giving going down. God has given us another supporter whom we did not expect! He indeed guards us in ways that we do not see or even expect.

Our Government has been in the process of giving us a new constitution which removes enormous powers from the president which he had for the last 17 years! This has never worked because the country is divided on tribal lines and vested interests from our leaders. It has become common now for well connected people to go scotfree and not face justice. This is what we call impunity! There is no justice for the majority of Kenyans but our judges are influenced, the attorney general of the country has been in his job for almost 20 years now! We are now being told that within one year, we will have a new constitution! But we have to vote to accept it.The question is whether we will be divided again as in 2005 when it happened and did not accept the then constitution.

We are thankful for the rains and Praise God for that.

We are greatful to have our daughter with us till beginning of January. She is doing an internship with a local hotel to gain some experience before going back to college.

We are thankful for God's protection while driving on our terrible roads where many accidents happen.

Pray for tonight's "Satsang". Our outreach to Indians in one of our elder's homes. We expect to see some Indian unbelievers to attend.

Pray for our big outreach end of November. We are planning to host the "king of Bollywood comedy" who is a Christian and who has agreed to come and speak at our two outreach meetings.

Pray that our son, Matthias would be able to come spend Christmas with us this year. He has not been to Kenya for 2 1/2 years. This would be great for us since our daughter is also here.

Thank you so much for your prayers, thoughts and financial support. It is always great to be associated in partnership with you in God's kingdom.

Blessings.

Joe Muutuki
